Who Are We – American Legion Riders
Department of Minnesota – ALR Post 260 Monticello, MN
The American Legion Riders (ALR) were formed in 1993 in Garden City, MI, as a way for Post, Auxiliary, and S.A.L. members who share a passion for motorcycles to come together in a family oriented environment.
The ALR supports the aims and purposes of the American Legion through service to our Community, State, and Nation. This includes:
Sponsoring or participating in local charity events
Raising money for organizations that support veterans, families, and youth
Supporting motorcycle runs that benefit numerous charities
Participating in memorial ceremonies and community parades
In 2006, the National Commander tasked the ALR with raising funds for the Legacy Scholarship Fund, which helps ensure higher education for children of service members who died on active duty or suffered a 50%+ service connected disability since 9/11. ALR chapters nationwide contributed annually, and in 2023 the fund became fully self sustaining. Minnesota ALR led the nation, raising nearly two million dollars of the twenty million collected since 2006.
The new national mission is to raise funds for the American Legion Veterans and Children Foundation, also known as A Foundation of Hope.
Minnesota’s ALR presence has grown steadily. The first chapter was formed at Post 122 in Deer River. In 2010, the Minnesota American Legion Riders organization was created to unite chapters statewide and support major fundraising efforts. Minnesota ALR has since led the way with its own annual Legacy Run and statewide fundraising rides.
ALR Post 260 Monticello, formed in 2016, continues that mission. What do we do?
Support the Post Commander during events, dinners, and community activities
Provide escorts for veteran funerals and burials
Organize pancake breakfasts, dinners, motorcycle runs, and other fundraisers
Volunteer with local organizations such as the Lions Club
Operate a booth at the annual Lions Club Beerfest, raising funds through food sales
Support Minnesota’s Fund 85 (Veterans Assistance Fund)
Support National efforts for the Veterans and Children Foundation
Assist the American Legion Family at Post 260 with their events and activities
Ride as often as possible, supporting other chapters, organizations, and community causes
Ultimately, everything we do is about helping veterans, supporting their families, and strengthening the communities we live in.
