Gopher State Nationals Wrestling Tournament

Description

The Gopher State Nationals Wrestling Championships is entering its seventh year in a partnership between MYAS and the Monticello Wrestling Club.  MYAS provides all the tournament services, accepts registrations, brackets the tournament, pays for officials and awards, and promotes the event.  Monticello Wrestling provides the voluntary workforce, in return they receive concessions and gate revenues.  The Midwest Wrestling Tour (MWT) consists of the Gopher State Nationals (MN), Badgerland Nationals, (WI) and the Hawkeye Nationals (IA). Highlighting the MWT is the prized MWT Belt. The MWT Belt will be presented to those wrestlers who place first through sixth at BOTH the Badgerland Nationals and Gopher State Nationals. The quality of the MWT Belt will be consistent with the custom medals that the wrestlers covet so much. 
 
In 2013, the Gopher State Nationals had over 1100 wrestlers from MN, WI, IA, ND, SD, MI, OH, IN, MO, NE and IL.  With a fan base of over 1,800 friends and family members, the tournament will have a significant economic impact on the city of Monticello and the surrounding area. 
The Minnesota Youth Athletic Services, Inc. (MYAS) was organized in 1991 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the delivery of youth sports services to young athletes, coaches and parents. The MYAS is Minnesota's largest multi-sport organization focused solely on youth athletics with more than 150,000 kids participating in our programs annually. The MYAS is a central clearinghouse for youth sports, serving as an information channel linking hundreds of youth associations, coaches, and thousands of parents.
